Mark Krail

Mark Krail graduated from Willow Glen High School in 1981, played football, basketball and baseball. Krail graduated from UCLA in 1985, played two years of baseball, and earned a degree in Kinesiology.  He earned a Master’s Degree from USIU, and teaching credential from SJSU.

 

Krail began his coaching career at Willow Glen High in 1986, coaching football and baseball

 

He was hired at age 25 in 1988 as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Pioneer High School, and coached in that position for 9 years.

 

Krail returned to Pioneer as the Head Football Coach in 1998, and coached there until 2009, winning 3 league championships. His overall 12-year record was 90-46-2, including the 3 league championships, and 11 CCS appearances.

 

Krail was named the CCS Honor Coach in 2005, and CIF Model Coach in 2009. Krail taught Science, PE and Leadership over 38 years in the classroom. Krail was a 2-time teacher of the year at Pioneer, including his last year there in 2009-2010.

 

In 2010, Krail took over the Football program at Santa Clara, and coached there for 3 years. The team was 1-19 the previous 2 seasons before his arrival.  Highlights at SC included a league championship in 2011, and being promoted to the De Anza division in 2012.

 

He was hired at LGHS in Spring of 2013, and has led the Wildcat Football program since then.  Highlights at LG include league championships in 2013, 2016, and 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.  CCS Championships in 2013 with a 31-14 victory over St Francis, 2019 CCS Championship with a 21-0 win over Oak Grove and 2023 with a 49-14 win over Wilcox.  Also in 2023, a NorCal Regional win against El Cerrito by a score of 14-6, and a LGHS First-ever State Bowl Appearance losing to CVC by a score of 45-42. Krail recently passed the 100-win mark at Los Gatos, making him the 2nd winningest football coach in school history.

 

After 25-plus years as being a Head Varsity Football Coach, Krail has won 210 games and is currently number 11 in wins in the history of the Central Coast Section which includes 95 public and private schools from San Francisco to King City.

 

Krail founded the local “Coaches Against Cancer” non-profit organization in 2009 after the passing of his Father. Since that time the organization has raised over $750,000 for those fighting cancer. Krail is also the Chairman of the Charlie Wedemeyer County High School All-Star Football game. A game that has gone on for 50 years, and is played annually by the best high school senior football players in Santa Clara County.

 

On a personal level, Krail has been married for 37 years to his wife Lisa. Lisa taught elementary school for many years. The Krails have two children that are also both teachers.  Son, Kevin, teaches at Pioneer High School and is member of the LGHS Football coaching staff. Daughter, Courtney, currently teaches 1st grade at Daves Elementary. Mark and Lisa are grandparents to Kaden James, Kaylee Juliette, and Lacy Elise.

 

Hobbies include playing lots of golf, some pickleball, along with enjoying family.
