Davor Koret

Davor Koret is the Head Varsity Water Polo Coach at Los Gatos High School, entering his 6th season in this role after spending one year as the JV coach. In addition to his responsibilities at LGHS, Davor is also the co-director of both San Jose Express Aquatics and the Los Gatos Water Polo Club. His extensive experience as a coach, combined with his leadership in local water polo clubs, makes him a highly respected figure in the sport. Davor’s coaching philosophy focuses on developing well-rounded student-athletes who are not only skilled in the sport but also good and respectful human beings. He emphasizes the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and discipline, and is dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential, both academically and athletically. His long-term goal is to continue sending athletes to NCAA college and university programs, while striving to keep his team winning SCVAL titles and making Open Division CCS finishes.

Throughout his coaching career, Davor has helped several of his players advance to top-tier college programs. Notable achievements include Maximilien Leroy, who went on to play at Chapman University in 2021, Lars Schubert (Occidental College, 2022), Connor Sullivan (Pomona College, 2023), Liam Amburgey (University of California, San Diego, 2023), and Eric Caplener (Iona University, 2023). Davor holds USA Water Polo Coaching Certifications and is committed to continuous learning and development in the sport.

Davor’s own playing experience adds depth to his coaching expertise. He played on the Croatian National Youth Team and competed professionally with Mladost in Zagreb, where he won a Gold medal in the 2013 Croatian Championship. He also played at West Valley College in 2013-2014, winning both a Conference and NorCal Championship, and was named to the First Team All-NorCal. He later played at San Jose State University in 2015-2016, where he was captain in his final season.

Davor’s coaching excellence has been recognized with several honors, including being named SCVAL Coach of the Year in 2023, co-champion of SCVAL in 2023 and 2024, and reaching the Open Division CCS three times (2022, 2023, 2024). In 2023, his team also reached the NorCal finals. Davor holds a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from San Jose State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the International Technological University.

Outside of water polo, Davor enjoys watching and playing soccer, as well as watching movies, documentaries, and listening to podcasts.
